Sleeping well for adults is extremely important. However, with the hectic pace of daily life, it is difficult to get a good night’s sleep. Whatever the reason, you may be stressed about a forthcoming promotion or worried about paying your rent a week late. Whatever it is that keeps you awake, these great tips will help you sleep better.
When you wake up from a restless night, it can be very tempting to have a cup of coffee the next day. But be sure to avoid caffeine for a few hours before going to bed if you have trouble sleeping. Coffee at lunchtime can keep you busy until bedtime. I like to end my nights off with a hot cup of chamomile tea or warm milk just before bedtime. It is very calming and helps to sleep well.
Use a soothing body bath at night that contains lavender. It can be a baby wash, but adults can benefit from its soothing properties. I like to use the lavender baby bath from Johnson & Johnson.
Instead of watching Jay Leno and Craig Ferguson at night, you should replace the TV with a good book. Television keeps our mind active, while reading relaxes our mind. Even if you don’t like books, read a magazine that you like!
This may sound very simple, but if you are tired, go to sleep! Don’t be tempted to lie in bed and do the eternal scroll and cool off on the phone, because I’m sure you do. The blue tone of your screen has been proven to keep you awake long after the initial tiredness. Did you know that more than 90% of adults admit to texting, watching TV, or surfing the Internet with their mobile phones at bedtime?
If you’ve had one of those exhausting days at work and haven’t been to the gym in the morning or afternoon, you shouldn’t be tempted to exercise at night. Instead, do yoga before bedtime that will relax your mind and body and help you sleep better.
When all else fails:
Don’t these sleeping tips help? You may well be suffering from insomnia that cannot be treated simply by following the above tips. I have suffered from insomnia before and I know how terrible it is. Try a melatonin supplement, which you can find in a health food store. If this still does not work, you may need to consult your doctor.
