ROYALE HIGH EASTER EGG HUNT – COLD SOUL ALL 16 EGGS
Most people would consider North Staffordshire to be an industrial center based on coal mining and the world-famous pottery industry (hence the name “The Potteries”).
Stoke-on-Trent is a former industrial area where coal, steel, and ceramics were produced, which earned it the name “The Potteries”. There are several industrial heritage museums in Stoke-on-Trent, including the Gladstone Pottery Museum. This is a working museum where visitors can see how pottery is traditionally made, except that the bottle ovens can no longer be fired with coal, so the pottery is fired in electric ovens.
Surrounded by a pleasant landscape with several attractive historical houses and crossed by several canals, Stoke-on-Trent is a modern town that provides an ideal base for exploration. Near the west and south are the market towns of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Stone, and Eccleshall. On the western outer edge of this area, just inside the Shropshire border, is Drayton Market, “home of gingerbread”.
Also in the north of the county are the high Staffordshire moors, which border the Peak District and include such attractions as Dove Dale and Manifold Valley, which can be seen here from the mouth of Thor’s Cave. The old Leek & Manifold Valley railway bed, which was closed in 1934, is now a tarmac road/bike path – bring your own bikes or rent them on site!
Here visitors will find many small, attractive villages with local stone buildings and a varied landscape, from mountain pastures to wild, windswept moors. The main town in the area is Leek, which was once a textile center and is now famous as the home of the Britannia Building Society.
An early 19th-century Gothic manor house in the small town of Alton, built for the 15th Earl of Shrewsbury and located on a site designed by “Capability” Brown, is now in ruins, but has many more visitors than its creator could have hoped for, as it is now known to all of Britain’s young people – Alton Towers! This theme park is undoubtedly one of the country’s biggest “daytime attractions” and has something for the whole family: scary rides, gentle walks for young children, cinemas, boat rides on the lake or just a quiet stroll through the still beautiful gardens.
Southern Staffordshire, including the county town of Stafford, is considered foreign territory to some of those who come from the north of the county. Its landscapes and attractions are completely different and it is becoming increasingly popular as a tourist area. The nearby Lichfield Cathedral dates back more than 1300 years and is home to the Lichfield Art Festival.
